FIP: Long-Term Results Confirm the Power of Quantitative PCR

A recent study by Zwicklbauer et al (2023) followed 18 cats in complete remission after treatment for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) with oral GS-441524.

The study revealed the following outcomes:
Complete clinical and virological remission in blood by week 24.
Persistent digestive viral shedding in some cats, despite the absence of clinical symptoms.

These findings highlight crucial points: quantitative RT-qPCR remains the most accurate method for detecting the virus in the absence of clinical manifestations, confirming infection along with quantitative data, essential for informed clinical decision making.

Quantitative RT-qPCR is essential for :

Confirming FCoV infection
Monitoring treatment efficacy over time
Detecting silent viral shedders after recovery
Supporting clinical decisions (treatment discontinuation, isolation, reintegration)

About our solution: Bio-T Kit® Canine and Feline Coronavirus

At BioSellal, we offer a dedicated quantitative RT-qPCR solution: the Bio-T Kit® Canine and Feline Coronavirus (Ref. BIOTK176), ideal for both diagnosis and follow-up in suspected or confirmed FIP cases.

This ready-to-use triplex kit enables absolute detection and quantification of Canine and Feline Enteric Coronaviruses (FCECV), including FIP virus. It contains an endogenous IPC internal positive control and an exogenous IC internal positive control.
